Issue No. 30

sponsored by DealGen Partners:

A quick intro, for anyone new here.

I'm Joe Zanca, and I run DealGen Partners. We outsource business development for private equity firms, family offices, and qualified buyers. We work as a partner, not as a vendor. In plain terms, we become your deal origination engine.

The work speaks for itself. On average, our clients are under LOI within the first 90 to 120 days. And we stand behind it: we'll bring you 10 qualified deals within the first four months, or we work for free until we hit that number.

So if you're looking for a new platform company to buy, or one of your existing platforms is looking to grow through acquisition, let's talk. We'll get into the industry, do a little market mapping, and start putting together a qualified list of targets.

Looking to buy or exit? Let's talk, Schedule a call

An owner stopped me in the middle of a call to tell me something.

He had been keeping a tally.

Mine was the 136th call.

He had started counting because the volume had gotten strange enough to count. Somewhere in there was every fund, every sponsor, every family office, and every search guy in the country, all of them opening with some version of the same paragraph about how impressed they were with what he had built.

Here is what changed. Anybody with a laptop can now write a researched, personalized, well-structured cold email in about three seconds. The tools did that. They handed everyone the same skill overnight.

So the owner who used to hear from five people a month now hears from five or ten a day. And every one of those messages knows his revenue range, his founding year, and the name of his dog.

What that means for the rest of us is uncomfortable. Your capital raised does not sound different. Your closed deal count does not sound different. The logos in your deck do not sound different. On the other end of that phone you are voice number 136, and nothing in your opening line separates you from 135 people he already stopped taking seriously.

This is why so many funds are seeing fewer deals right now, and most of them are blaming the market for it.

❝

If you are open to reviewing some of the recent deals we've found, or search thesis' we've put together,  lets schedule a call today.

If you are living off banked processes, you are in an auction, and in an auction you get outbid. That leaves referral partners as your only other path. But referral partners are people too, and reaching them takes the same thing reaching the owner takes. You have to stand out, and standing out takes all of your time.

We spend all of our time on it. That is the whole job.

The battle is not for capital anymore. It is not even for credibility. It is for thirty seconds of a tired man's attention.

❝

If your outreach landed in front of that owner today, what would make them stop counting?

This is the part of the newsletter where we open up the board.

Every idea you'll find here is a search we'd happily run with the right partner. An idea earns its spot one of two ways. Either it's a space where we're seeing strong deal flow right now and we're looking for a buyer to chase it with us — or it's a market we've watched fragment, where we see a real opportunity to build something through consolidation.

Feel free to click around and browse our idea database. If one of them fits what you're after, reach out and let's run it together.
